Nanjing is located next to tourism and cultural city of Yangzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou and other typical southern garden cities, which has a superior geographic location. As an important connection hub of Nanjing cross-river development strategy, Jiangxinzhou is planned to be built as an “ecological and tech city, low-carbon and intelligent island” and this project is located in here. Designers introduced this concept and combined with the local culture essence to create a feature landmark landscape for this project.
The architecture style of this project is modern simple style with a great sense of times. It includes contract negotiation zone, office space and sample exhibition area. Glass, gray stone material, aluminum alloy and wood grain grille are utilized in architecture to create a transparent and clean particularity.
Based on architecture design and site condition, designers get inspiration from “small island” and “rain”. “Central island is floating on the endless water surface, wind blows and drizzle is patting against the flat water with blossoming ripples.” The island is surrounded by drizzle and ripples and the flat water becomes more dynamic, so that people in reality can experience a zen feeling in modern urban life. To make everything slow down and calm down is the design purpose for this project. Through the using of Chinese painting, designers strive to present a lifestyle out of the perspective still frame: drizzle – the zen sculpture expressing raindrop is integrated with water, meanwhile designers integrate the culture background of Nanjing specialty Yuhua Stone to arrange landscape stone; island – the water-surrounded building is referred to as an island on the water; the surface of the river – water feature is surrounding the building to create a zen space.
Designers utilize the ginkgo tree court on the frontcourt space to shield the interference from surrounding environment and get access to a static space from a dynamic one. The ginkgo tree courts on both sides highlight the central entrance plaza, and combined with mirror water feature to create a feature paving plaza. The soft furnishings and lighting effect create the ceremonial sense of entrance space. The contrast technique is adopted in the design of exhibition area. The mirror water feature and leisure platform create a big space and contrast with the enclosed small space of entrance porch. The changing of space makes people’s eyes light up and suddenly become clear-minded. The sculpture on water and art seating on platform create a zen atmosphere of the whole space. In terms of the sample area, designers adopt a method that makes the big space bigger and small space smaller to create exquisite small space and echo with the exhibition area. What’s more, designers utilize the karesansui garden to create a zen space and provide a good scenic spot for indoor sight of the sample area. The leisure space is the end of the exhibition area and serves as a breathing space, and connects to the greening big space by interesting roads and trellis platform. As a stopover point for visitors, the exquisite courtyard space includes the following landscape elements: interesting pedestrian space, eye-catching trellis platform, open lawn and forest and grass slope space. As for the junction between frontcourt and sample area, designers try to create an exquisite plant space, together with the transition of road space and landscape trees to create a big space of open lawn and forest and grass slope to contrast with the inner exquisite small space and provide a space for future activities.
